Swaziland has recognised that a trade mark/brand is a designation of the quality of the product and not merely a badge of origin. IOL reports that a proposal by a Swaziland member of parliament that HIV-positive people be branded on the buttocks has been met with outrage. According to a report on the IoL site, Swaziland MP and leader of the gospel group Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, Timothy Myeni, told a leadership workshop for fellow MPs that the kingdom needed a mandatory law for testing people for HIV. 'Before having sex with anyone, people will have to check their partners' buttocks before proceeding,' Myeni told a workshop last week. Swaziland AIDS Support Organisation spokesperson Vusi Matsebula said: ‘His utterances represent the views of someone who is still sleeping around.' Thanks to Reinhold Gregorowski (Bowman Gilfillan) for the tip off.
