Yo Virgin...

"The producer of Nollywood movie “Ghetto Dreamz” has instituted a N1 Billion (approximately USD 6,221,340) lawsuit against Virgin Atlantic Airlines Nigeria for copyright infringement. Ope Banwo the CEO of the production company alleges that the full length of the movie was played on over 71 international routes by the defendant company.

Justice Adah of the Federal High Court sitting at the Ikeja Judicial Division, Lagos on the 2nd February 2012 granted an injunctive relief restraining the defendant Virgin Atlantic Airlines Nigeria Ltd whether by themselves, agents, privies, management, directors, pilots, flight crew, etc from infringing or continuing to infringe the copyrights in Ghetto Dreams.

Ghetto Dreams which premiered in April 2011 is a biopic of Dagrin (Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun), A Nigerian Hip-Hop Artiste who died on 22nd April 2010 at the tender age of 22 from fatal injuries sustained in car crash.

The case has been adjourned to 12 March 2012."

Chukwuyere, we look forward to further updates - thank you.

It is now 13 April any updates?

It is a clear case of secondery infringment where the film was shown publically without licence. Mr Branson was currently at the end of the wrath of the bbc earlier this month for taking BBC creation concept and actor and for using it in his advert for virgin broadband or something.. not sure how they settled it he is still showing it though on 1tv3.

what is needed in the Dagrin movie case is for Branson to just settle it there is no other requirment to show any infringement . You showed it or you didnt show it . he showed it . did you have permit? No. there fore infringement took place.

The Oyinbos dont like to admit that they are guilty ( see my own copyright case in the british courts, twice the judges tried to intimidate me once verbally the other in a letter. it got so that they went ahead with the hearing without notifying me of it, I got the notification the SAT AFTER the WEDNESDAY of the hearing..) It can get quite bloody as there is serious money at stake..
The USA is just as bad, see the Sophia Stewart ( original creator of the Matrix) and Troy Walker the original creator of Spongebob square pants cartoon to name just 2 , there are alot of us tho..

Please alert of any updates.
