The Vanguard, Nigeria, has reported that Adebambo Adewopo, Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), remains remarkably upbeat about the continued battle against IP pirates, whom he describes as "economic saboteurs who should be treated as criminals". IP infringement in Africa's most populous country is assessed as inflicting losses of some N 10 billion a year. Nigeria hosts some 18 DVD and CD replication plants, while the entire Southern African region has only two such plants.
