From a news item on AllAfrica and also from the SMAS-IP Newsletter this blogger understands that Tunisia will be hosting two African institutions: the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) and the African Statistical Institute. This is apparently in accordance with the decision taken by the African Union of 9 January 2015.Can someone explain to this blogger precisely what is going on? This blogger knows of only one OAPI: it's based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. There is nothing on its website to suggest that the organisation is to be relocated. Further, this blogger recalls that Tunisia is not a member of OAPI. Some sort of clarification would be greatly welcomed.

ReplyI think that the 'Pan' just got left out - inadvertently- by the source of the report. I'm not sure what we can do to correct the reporting error beyond doing an Afro-IP post on Tunisia as the home of PAIPO.
ReplyIt would help if OAPI sent out a press release distinguishing itself from PAIPO too.
OAPI published a communiqué on its website declining any connection to the said OAPI in Tunisia. Its definitely PAIPO.
